Dante Higgins has been one of the most consistent independent artists in Houston over the last few years. His latest project ‘Kingpen’, is produced entirely by Charity Vaughn (former Space City Beat Battle champion). Dante’s lyrics have always been vivid and introspective but on ‘Kingpen’ this is even more evident than before. See tracks like “McDonald’s Drive Thru” or “Magix Studios” for examples of the everyday man lyricism and storytelling. The project’s crown jewel is in my opinion “Black Lives Matter”, check out the video of him performing this piece at a poetry event below.
