If you are not familiar with The Remix Project based out of Toronto here is the mission statement that better explains what this organization is about in better words than I could put.
The Remix Project was created in order to help level the playing field for young people from disadvantaged, marginalized and under served communities. Our programs and services serve youth who are trying to enter into the creative industries or further their formal education; The REMIX Project provides top-notch alternative, creative, educational programs, facilitators and facilities. Our mission is to help refine the raw talents of young people from across the GTA in order to help them find success as participants define it and on their own terms.
I can’t explain to you how import this is to our city and what it has already done for the city in the few years it has been around. Some incredible kids at this organization are getting a chance to develop their talents and dreams into something very real they once didn’t think was possible. Past students, teachers and current ambassadors for the organization include Rich Kidd,Future The Prince (October’s Very Own), Noah “40” Shebib (October’s Very Own), Bryan Brock & T-Rexx of 1LoveTO, Karla “HustGRL” Moy, Melanie Fiona, K’Naan, Sol Guy, Bryan Espiritu (IdeaLL Clothing) etc. They recently just established their own label through EMI Music Canada called Honest Music which will be able to put out not just former students but they also have the freedom to sign whoever they want (Canadian or international). Remix also celebrated their 6th graduation for last semester’s group of students and as always it was documented. Check the video below and make sure you check the site to see what else Remix is about. S/O to Gav, Drex, Brock, Yasser, Addy, Ricky and everyone else at Remix.
