Michael Jackson. Rest In Power.

By June 25, 2009June 29th, 2009Interviews, Misc, Podcasts, Real Life

You are the truth.

One story I’ll always remember my father telling me about Michael Jackson: He went to see the Jackson 5 at Madison Square Garden as a teenager. He said Michael was singin’ and dancin’ and went into a spin, grabbed a cup of water, drank it all, and put it back down, before coming out of the spin without a break in the routine.

And that’s how FWMSr knew Michael Jackson was bad.

My first cassette was a Jackson 5 tape.

Thriller was officially the first album that I ever owned. I was fascinated at his performance on the grammy’s and even remember Herbie Hancock with Grandmixer DXT on the turntables at the same show.

I had to have his music and more so i had to have the glove…. and the socks….. and the black pants…. and even the shoes… And my mother and stepfather got them for me. I never got the red and black jacket though. Texas is too hot for that shit.

I still have the photographs of me in the whole gear dancing on top a table outside of our house in front of the whole neighborhood. From there my interest grew to breaking and so on….

I was 5 years old and in kindergarten. To me he was the greatest, smoothest man on the planet when he moonwalked….

He kept everyone in awe of his moves… and we secretly wanted to be as smooth as him when he danced and as loving as he could be when he sang.

I kind of lost touch with his music after Dangerous came out. I lived in the UK during that release and over there they treat him like a King of Pop that he is. An old school friend of mine used to think that if you dissed Mike then those were fighting words. You just don’t diss Mike without good reason.

He did so much to contribute to the progression and evolution of popular music culture that no one anywhere can surpass his accomplishments.

Being asked to name my favorite track from him is not even fair so I came up with a handful of classics that I never get tired of.

    “Never Can Say Goodbye”

    “Dancing Machine”

    “Rock With You”

    “Baby Be Mine”

    “Human Nature”

    “Man In The Mirror”

    “Remember The Time”

    “Moonwalker” The Movie

Hopefully the rumours of him taking his Shahadah were true. For the sake of his soul truly resting in Peace….

All I can say is DAMN…we ALL remember doing the crotch grab at one time or another. And back in high school the sequenced glove was a hot thing!

  • FWMSr says:

That’s the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help me God…

He didn’t miss a beat..and those watching from the front never saw him pick up the glass…

    Dancing…Dancing…He’s a Dancing Machine

RIP Michael Jackson…See you when I get there
