It’s been a while since we’ve heard from producer and keyboardist, Chris Keys. His collaboration with Georgia Anne Muldrow for “A Thoughtiverse Unmarred” as well as Quelle Chris’s “Innocent Country” (both produced entirely by Chris Keys) came out in 2015 and since then it would seem that he’d hit a hard stop. Then two years later and seemingly out of the blue, we get this subtle gem chock-full of bangers. When asked about this new project sprung forth from hiatus, Chris says “Bridges is something I did mid-2015. I had been making exclusively sample-based music and felt like seeing what would happen if I tried making things from scratch, and this is what I came up with over about a week or two. The title comes from a routine I had where I would burn a CD of songs I wanted to listen to and drive from Oakland to SF and back listening to it. I’d usually go at night around 1 or so when the roads would be pretty clear and there was a calmness around that you don’t usually get to see during other hours. anyways it was my meditation for about a year or two, and I would come back and make music all night afterwards. I ended up calling them bridge runs. These songs all have a bridge between them – kind of an outro or interlude beat between longer songs, and also this music served as sort of a bridge between how I was making before and after. It’s been hanging around a long time now and I was anxious letting it sit, so here it is. thank you, thank you, thank you for checking it out. i’m just happy it’s not rotting away in my library anymore, and hopefully it opens the gates for a bunch of other music to come out. maybe listen to it on a bridge run of your own.”
