After a hell of a first year with releases from Mndsgn, Low Leaf and Coultrain, the Fresh Selects label announced their latest signing earlier this week – a Baltimore-based multi-talent who goes by simply, Dolphin. And the only thing more incredible than his story, is his music.
An extremely prolific singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-faceted musician, Dolphin has written & recorded over 50 (yes… FIFTY!!!) albums of his own original works over the past 15 or so years, and has never officially released any of that material to the public – until now.
Wax Poetics premiered Dolphin’s first official offering in this new chapter of his career, a recently recorded non-album single entitled, “Young Black Mind.” Like he does on the vast majority of his catalogue, Dolphin wrote, recorded, mixed and played all of the instruments (in this case – vocals, piano, live bass, strings, & the MPC for drums) on the song – a 7 minute anthem that is at the same time intimately personal and specific, as it universal and ubiquitous.
The secret is out now, but the story is really just beginning.
You can stream the song below and download it for free or donate via Bandcamp.
