Tonight I met Dego of 4hero/Silhouette Brown after witnessing my first Silhouette Brown concert and hand delivering a CD-R with the session files for a Dego x The Luv Bugz collaboration track (yes, you read that properly). I remember the first time I heard 4hero during my freshman year of college at Rice University. The instrumentation and the string arrangements and the percussion just kind of grabbed ahold of me and never quiet let go. Sparked a short, but intense infatuation with drum n bass/jungle (and even that dreaded IDM stuff) and on into Garage, Broken Beat, Grime and a bunch of other awesome things coming out of the UK. Plus they did a song with one of my favourite emcees ever, Ishmael/Buttafly of Digable Planets.
Naturally when I learned of the off shoot projects and frequent collaborators, one of which was SIlhouette Brown I was sure to find out everything I could. And what I didn’t find my father would find and dub for me (he’s a bigger Broken Beat head than I am). Silhouette Brown’s sophomore album two is out now. Above is an interview Taylor McFerrin (who was also present tonight, but I couldnt quite place him) did with Dego for Centric TV.
