Welcome to Rappers I Know’s “Get To Know” Week!
First up, we’re featuring the Kashmere Don himself, the much-heralded D. Rose.
I caught up with D Rose on a windy Houston afternoon, interrupting his downtown video shoot for “Beautiful World” for a quick look at one of the most talented, hard-working lyricists out there. He’s been a staple of the Rappers I Know family since day one. Do a quick search for him on the site, and you’ll see how much work he’s put in.
D Rose, along with DJ Cozmos, released a classic album titled “Taster’s Choice“. If you don’t have it yet, you owe it to yourself to get your hands (or keyboard) on it. In fact, D Rose tells you how to get a copy on the video above.
Editor’s note: Brew of Lower Life Form is also one of the featured artists on Taster’s Choice. (Sorry, Brew – we owe you a beer. A cheap one.)

i got that taster’s choice album. i had it for a while now. i got to say it’s one of my favorite joints right now.
if you don’t have it, you need to get it. take it from me it’s dope in my opinion.
i’m 30 year old black dude from miami, florida (if you consider that the south). born and raised. i’m a hip hop head in it’s truest since. but i grew up on all new york and east coast rap and some west coast shit if it was on some lyrical shit like for example, early freestyle fellowship and hieroglyphics crew. shit like that.
but also being from the south i grew up on shit from the south too. i grew up on early 2 live crew (who didn’t being from miami), poison clan, and geto boys. and later on groups like outkast, cee-lo and the goodie mob. oh yeah… also the d.o.c. who is originally from texas. Some of these artist and groups who i just mentioned were groups who were lyrical and they were on some real hip hop shit (besides 2 live crew, somewhat. more on that sex, bitches and party shit but they still had some shit that was hitting hard on their albums during the 80’s)
here’s what i’m getting at. i’m not hating on southern hip hop. lately and for a long time now it hasn’t been my cup of tea should i say. i haven’t been feeling shit from southern rappers for a while now. i’m talking about your typical southern rap shit and sound. the shit that you hear on commercial radio and television all day.
but i been listening to cat’s for a while now actually like since day one. groups like little brother, 9th wonder and the justus league, etc.. and earlier southern underground hip hop groups like mass influence, k-otix, cunninlynguists, etc. i can’t remember all of them off top right now, if i’m missing any. but those are some hip hop artist from the south i’ve been listening to since jumpstreet that’s coming with that real hip hop shit that i like.
now, i ‘ve been coming to fwmj’s rappers i know for a while now. since it started actually, i think. and that’s how i got familar with d.rose and dj cozmos. this site has put me on to a lot of other artist from the south as well that i didn’t know about.
but if it wasn’t for rappers i know, would of never knew who d.rose and dj cozmos were. i got say that taster’s choice is one of my favorite albums right now.
i appreciate cats that happens to be from the south who are bringing that real hip hop shit from their point of view.
